HCG is the abbreviation for Human Chorionic Gonadotropin. It is a hormone produced in mass amounts during pregnancy and helps a woman's body to metabolize fat and use it as a source of calories to provide energy for her and the growing baby thus acting as a survival mechanism for the fetus if the mother is not consuming enough calories.
It can be administered via injection, liquid drops, pellets and a patch(fairly new). When used in conjunction with Dr. A.T.W. Simeon's diet for weight loss, the HCG mobilizes stored abnormal fat to use as a source of calories and eliminates the extra as well as the toxins contained in the fat cells. The diet burns 2000 to 4000 fat calories a day which is equivalent to 1 to 2 pounds. This fat can come from the abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks, upper arms, chin etc.
The hypothalamus is the part of the brain that controls our metabolic rate. This gland also moderates the thyroid, adrenals, and the body's fat storage.
How Much weight can I expect to lose on this diet?
Most HCG dieters have reported a loss of one to two pounds per day. Few have reported losses of a 1/2 pound to over 3 pounds a day average. Many lose even more than that daily in the first few days of Phase 2. Everyone is different. It depends on many factors including how much excess weight you have and how much you need to lose. Often, people lose 7-10 lbs in the first week. Our very first client lost 9 pounds on his first day! Freaked us out! Thrilled him!
Fiber and water intake are the greatest factors to lose weight on the hCG Diet. Eliminate the sugars, fats and oils to ensure maximum pounds and inches lost.
Remember to drink plenty of water to effectively flush the toxins!
Why should I use Discover HCG drops?
We put a lot of time and energy into finding the right drops. Our research was personal in the beginning. We wanted to find the best product to achieve our own personal weight loss goals.
The 10 of us used drops of various strengths, and formulations, 'real' vs homeopathic, from different HCG companies and labs. We factored in our experiences with each and of course chose the best for ourselves! Not only do we use our own product, but our moms and dads, our age appropriate children, spouses, and a host of friends and family, so we knew that we had to be on point!
Aren't all HCG drops created equal?
Some formulations are simply plain HCG while others contain additional boosters such as vitamins and minerals. Some brands are less potent than others.
The cheaper brands are often sourced from foreign countries such as (but not limited to) China and India where we have no idea of their regulatory standards or how strictly they are regulated.
We have heard of HCG (drops and injectable) sourced from pregnant animals, smuggled into the country, and drops mixed in garages and kitchens! Just reckless and dangerous!
Our Discover HCG drops come from tested, American sources and are formulated, bottled, and sealed in a midwestern, FDA regulated, GMP certified, U.S. Laboratory.
They are formulated under pristine conditions and stringently tested for micro-contaminants enabling us to present our clients with the safest HCG drops on the market.
On the other hand, alcohol based HCG requires no refrigeration, although we would not recommend you leave it in heat or direct sunlight. The alcohol base causes maximum and more rapid absorption of the hormone. It also protects the product from contamination, travels very well, and has a much longer shelf life. All of this led to the decision to carry only HCG with an alcohol base.
If you have not fat loaded properly during the first two days (Phase 1) while taking the drops you may feel mild hunger during the first week of Phase 2. This will pass and by the second week you will find your servings to be more than satisfying. Even though you are taking in fewer calories, your body will feed on 2000 - 4000 calories from it's own fat each day and access the energy you have stored in those fat cells!
Drinking lots of water and green tea(sweetened only with stevia) helps suppress the appetite . Most people have plenty of energy and feel good while on the program as long as they eat all foods required and drink sufficient amounts of water.
No! Do not skip any of the foods listed on the diet as there is a synergy with the nutrients. Its important to eat all of your 500 calories and especially your protein so that you only lose fat and not muscle. Some that have tried this have stopped losing weight altogether as the body goes into starvation mode.
Drop the sugar and back away! Sugar, Splenda, Equal, Sweet n Low, etc. will cause you to gain weight or stall your loss altogether while on HCG! Stevia is the only sweetener allowed on this plan.
Can I still do the HCG diet if I am a vegetarian?
The following answer comes directly from Dr. A.T.W. Simeons original protocol:
Strict vegetarians such as orthodox Hindus present a special problem, because milk and curds are the only animal protein they will eat. To supply them with sufficient protein of animal origin they must drink 500 cc. of skimmed milk per day, though part of this ration can be taken as curds. As far as fruit, vegetables and starch are concerned, their diet is the same as that of non-vegetarians; they cannot be allowed their usual intake of vegetable proteins from leguminous plants such as beans or from wheat or nuts, nor can they have their customary rice. In spite of these severe restrictions, their average loss is about half that of non-vegetarians, presumably owing to the sugar content of the milk.
Is it alright to follow recipes that use foods that are not listed in the diet?
We would not recommend that, especially in the beginning. This eating plan requires a good amount of discipline. It would be to your benefit to first see how your body reacts to the diet without additions. You will eventually become more disciplined and only then should you risk a non compliant food.
Our personal experiences compelled us to include B-12 and magnesium in our formulation. This will increase your energy and metabolism. Use a good raw food multivitamin, making sure it is sugar free and has no fat soluble ingredients like fish oils or vitamin D. Potassium is also good if you are prone to leg cramps (which can be common while on this diet as electrolytes become low). The magnesium phosphates in our formula addresses this issue. Calcium is also a good one to take if needed. Do not use vitamin A, D, and E! They can really slow your fat burning process!
There are no age or sex limits. We stress consulting a physician for use in children ages under 12 years of age and always recommend consulting a physician before beginning any diet or weight loss program.
Is HCG safe to take along with my prescriptions?
Taking birth control is also ok while on the diet.
Can I begin taking my HCG drops during my menstrual cycle?
What about pregnancy and taking HCG?
If you are pregnant or become pregnant during the HCG diet, stop taking HCG and consult your physician.
If I run out of drops can I continue the diet without them?
Just by cutting back a person's calories and fat consumption, one can lose weight. The risk and negative effect that happens, is that the body will tend to lose mostly muscle before fat, which is dangerous. When the body is deprived, it stores fat. This causes the cellular metabolism to slow down. When a person's metabolism slows down it makes it easier to gain weight while decreasing muscle mass.
When following the HCG diet, the excess fat is mobilized for energy and the rest is eliminated. The low calorie program is essential because it prevents the emptied fat cells from refilling. This helps maintain your muscle mass by getting rid of the fat deposits. It will reset your metabolism and leave your muscle alone.
Odds and Ends
Will exercise help me to lose weight faster?
No! It will stimulate hunger! If you must, make it light exercise only. You can do about 20 min. of slow walking a day. This combination of low calorie intake and exercise could cause your body to go into starvation mode. We recommend waiting until you move into Phase 3/Stabilization before beginning an exercise program and start very slowly.
Can I Drink Alcohol on the HCG Diet?
It is possible to have a couple of alcoholic beverages per week and still lose weight, however you must be very careful!
The problem is caused by our choice of beverage and our inability to drink in moderation. Alcoholic mixes are loaded with calories and sugar! The alcohol stimulates our appetite and suppresses control, so before you know it, you've consumed 4 drinks and a bowl full of salty snacks!
If you absolutely must drink, have a VERY dry wine with club soda or a shot of clear white liquor.
Is it true that we can't use lotions or make-up while on the diet?
According to Dr. Simeons, fats, oils, creams and ointments are absorbed by the skin and interfere with weight reduction by HCG, just as if it had been eaten! Therefore, no lotions, moisturizers or liquid make-ups with oils or fats. These could slow the weight loss process down. However, you can use any mineral makeup or pressed powders and of course oil free foundations are fine.
